Most men’s skincare routines are built on compromise. A cleanser from one brand, a serum from whatever was on offer, a fragrance picked up in an airport. It works, sort of, but it rarely feels considered. Horace, the French skincare and grooming brand, is built on the opposite premise: fewer products, used properly, from a single source you don’t have to think about twice.

We spent four weeks testing a cross-section of the range, from the Complete Firm Skin Kit to the brand’s newest fragrance, Ibiza ’87. The honest verdict: this is a rare skincare brand that stops you jumping between brands every few months. Not everything in the range is essential, but three products in particular are worth your money regardless of what else is in your routine.

The Firm Skin Kit: A Genuinely Complete Routine

    Horace Complete Firm Skin Kit

Horace’s Complete Firm Skin Kit ($96, a $15 saving on buying separately) bundles four products designed to work as a morning-and-evening system rather than a pick-and-mix.

    Horace Purifying Face Cleanser

The Purifying Face Cleanser ($15) is the standout of the four. It’s a navy gel that lathers thinly rather than foams, and it does the job a cleanser is actually meant to do: lifts grime and regulates oil without leaving skin tight afterwards. Over 10,700 reviews on Horace’s site back this up, and after a month of daily use, we understand why. It’s become the one product we’d genuinely miss if we ran out.

    Horace Peptide Serum

The Bio-Retinol + Argireline® Peptide Serum ($29) is the kit’s ambitious piece, aimed at fine lines and dark spots. Results here are the slow, cumulative kind rather than anything dramatic in four weeks, which is honest given what bio-retinol formulas can realistically do over a month. Skin looked more even by the end of the trial, though this is one to judge over a longer stretch.

Horace Face Firming GelHorace Under Eye Moisturizer

The Face Firming Gel ($28) is lightweight enough to double as a moisturiser, and the Under-Eye Moisturizer ($24) is unfussy and does exactly what’s printed on the tin: smooths, hydrates, takes the edge off tired mornings.

The Anti-Fatigue Eye Patches: Small Product, Big Difference

    Horace Under Eye Patches

If we’re picking a single product from the range to recommend without hesitation, it’s the Anti-Fatigue Under-Eye Patches ($29 for a box of five pairs). These are a genuinely useful addition to a routine rather than a novelty. Fifteen minutes under the eyes and the difference is immediate, with less puffiness and a visibly brighter under-eye area. It’s the kind of quick fix that’s worth having in the cabinet before an early flight or a heavy week. They’re silicone-free, vegan, and made in France, consistent with how the rest of the brand is formulated.

The Fragrance: Ibiza ’87 Deserves the Attention

    Horace Ibiza 87

Horace’s newest release, Ibiza ’87 ($82 for 1.69fl oz, $116 for 3.38fl oz), is the most interesting thing we tested. It opens with a fizzing, champagne-adjacent freshness before settling into something warmer and more resinous, built around fir balsam and labdanum. It’s handmade in Grasse, France’s fragrance capital, and it wears well across a full day without becoming heavy. For anyone who finds most men’s fragrances either too safe or too aggressive, this sits in a smart middle ground. It’s the one product from this test we’d repurchase at full price without thinking twice.

    Horace Travel Fragrances Intense Edit

For travel, the Travel Fragrances – Intense Edit ($87) is a practical way to sample four of Horace’s stronger scents, including Ibiza ’87, in 0.33fl oz sizes.

    The Everyday Extras

    Horace Tobacco Vanilla Beard Oil

The Tobacco & Vanilla Beard Oil ($18) is a solid, unfussy option, with a warm, sweet scent and none of the greasy finish that puts a lot of men off beard oil altogether. And the Tonic Lotion ($20) earns a mention less for the toner itself, which does what most toners do, and more for a small detail: the reformulated version now includes prebiotics aimed at balancing the skin’s microbiome, a thoughtful addition that shows Horace is still refining products long after launch rather than leaving them static.

    Our Hero Picks

If you’re testing the water with Horace rather than buying the full range, start here:

    The Verdict

Horace won’t reinvent your routine overnight, and the retinol serum in particular needs longer than four weeks to prove itself fully. But as a brand to build a routine around rather than raid occasionally, it holds up. The formulas are considered, the natural-origin percentages are consistently high across the range, and, crucially for a men’s grooming brand, nothing here feels over-engineered or unnecessarily complicated. That’s rarer than it should be.
