One way to tell that no one anticipated Curry Barker’s Obsession becoming a box office phenomenon: The Focus Features horror movie is still in theaters, but is also now available on VOD, with its 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD release coming to stores in just two weeks.
Obsession, which Barker says was inspired by an episode of The Simpsons, stars Michael Johnston as a young man who wishes for his crush (Inde Navarrette) to love him back, and has to face the consequences when his wish comes true. The weekend of June 26th, seven weeks after its release, it was number three at the box office, behind the new release of Supergirl and ahead of Jackass: Best and Last.
The movie’s home video release includes Obsession Unleashed, a behind-the-scenes featurette that includes Johnston and Navarrette’s chemistry test, and an audio commentary by Barker. You can watch it now on VOD via Apple TV and Amazon, and pre-order the 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD edition via Amazon before its release on on July 14th.
