Congress Sends More Weapons To Ukraine, While Trying To Disarm The American People

Congress Sends More Weapons To Ukraine, While Trying To Disarm The American People

House Democrats are trying to jam through ’emergency’ gun control measures aimed at the American people while simultaneously sending tens of billions of dollars of military hardware, including rifles and pistols, to foreigners in Ukraine.

The House Judiciary Committee is currently poised to advance the Protecting Our Kids Act which Representative Thomas Massie has described as “eight unconstitutional gun control bills in one piece of legislation.”

Among the provisions included in the bill are raising the age to purchase a so-called assault rifle from 18 to 21, banning standard capacity magazines, and a crackdown on “ghost guns.”

You can read all of the gun control bills here.

Massie warned that despite Congress technically being in “recess,” committees were working hard to pass the bills, and that he was flying into Washington, D.C. to fight against the proposed measures.

Technically Congress is in recess but today Democrats in the Judiciary Committee (many via a zoom meeting?) are going to pass eight unconstitutional gun control bills in one piece of legislation.

I’m flying to DC this morning to join the fight against this in person.

Massie (R-KY), in an op-ed column for Newsweek penned alongside John Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, points out that the gun grab taking place in Congress “will make it much more difficult for people to defend themselves.”

Massie and Lott note that age provisions would leave young women vulnerable and unable to defend themselves, while the legislation would lead to “otherwise-law-abiding citizens” facing “up to 10 years in prison for temporarily lending a gun to someone else — even for good reason.”

You may recall the hero border patrol agent who took out the Uvalde school shooter borrowed a gun from his barber to stop the carnage.

The Newsweek op-ed notes that President Biden recently suggested banning 9mm handguns – something he falsely claimed was a “high-caliber weapon” that “blows the lung out of the body.”

His handlers have since walked the ban suggestion back a bit.

Massie and Lott also report on a survey last fall that found 40% of Democrats wanted to ban all civilian-owned handguns.

“It seems Democrats will only be satisfied when guns have been completely banned in the U.S.,” they wrote.

Democrats Okay With Arming the Ukrainian People

The Democrats’ gun control push comes less than three months after the Biden administration inadvertently recognized the need for an armed populace to protect themselves from people with evil or ill intentions.

No, not here in America, where the right to bear arms is a constitutionally guaranteed right. Over in Eastern Europe. Ukraine, specifically.

We have learned a lesson from the horrific tragedy in Uvalde:

Government will mandate that your children be vulnerable, hold you back at gunpoint while they are murdered, and then try to lie about it.

And then they’ll tell you that it all happened because you own a rifle.

In mid-March, the Department of Defense (DOD) announced an order from the Biden administration regarding a transfer of arms to “Ukrainian defenders.”

The $800 million worth of equipment was designed “to help the people of Ukraine defend their freedom.”

What was included in the package for the Ukrainian people?

“100 grenade launchers, 5,000 rifles, 1,000 pistols, 400 machine guns and 400 shotguns to Ukrainian forces along with more than 20 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenade launcher and mortar rounds.”

Rifles, pistols, machine guns, and shotguns.

Think there’ll be an age limit on who gets to use those in defense of their homes, their lives, and their country? Think those guns will be loaned to others as a means to defend freedom? Think anybody knows where some of those firearms will even end up?

While the Ukrainian people get machine guns for their freedom, the American people who might own an AR-15 or even now, a 9mm handgun – the most popular caliber handgun in the United States – are looked down upon and targeted for restrictions.

Libertarian Spike Cohen put it best:

The US government has been arming Ukraine, because they’re allies.

The US government has been seeking to disarm Russia, because they’re opponents.

In totally unrelated news, the US government seeks to disarm you.

    — Spike Cohen (@RealSpikeCohen) June 2, 2022

Why is Ukraine’s freedom more important, more precious, than our own?

It isn’t just the Democrats with this mindset either. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) tapped Senator John Cornyn to “negotiate” with Democrats on gun control last week.

The Political Insider’s Becky Noble reported shortly thereafter that “a group of five Democrat and three Republican Senators including Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Pat Toomey (R-PA) were meeting in the basement of the Capitol to discuss expanded background checks and ‘red flag’ legislation.”

All of this comes after the Senate passed a $40 billion military, economic and humanitarian aid package for Ukraine on May 19th – the same day they blocked a $48 billion pandemic relief package for American small businesses.

Once again, Ukraine’s needs – financial and in defense of their homes – had trumped those of the American people.

On same day that the Senate cleared $40 billion more for Ukraine, they rejected a similar bill for American small businesses.

We should be opposed to all big govt bills, but GOP members who voted for Ukraine over American relief have some qs to answer.https://t.co/vPAY4Z1ZIu

The “Protecting Our Kids Act” considered by the Judiciary Committee on Thursday, in which they will debate and modify the proposed legislation in a mark-up session, is expected to move to the House floor for a vote next week.

It’s unlikely the Senate – needing 60 votes – will advance and pass such legislation that disarms the American people. But it won’t be without trying, and it likely won’t be without a Republican squish or two caving to pressure from the anti-Second Amendment lobby.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon on Wednesday announced another $700 million in military aid to Ukraine.

Imagine what that money could have done to aid in improving mental health facilities, school security systems, and actual enforcement of gun laws on the books here in the United States.

You know, actual solutions to the violence Americans so desperately want to put an end to.

Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.
