‘Extracted’ Blake Kaminer On Skills That Make Him Perfect For HQ

‘Extracted’ Blake Kaminer On Skills That Make Him Perfect For HQ

Blake Kaminer has become one of Extracted‘s rising stars. Recently, Kaminer talked about his time on the show, including what he thinks made him suited for HQ. He even shared a few survival tips for fans and other would-be adventurers.

The ‘Companions’ Aid ‘Competitors’ On Fox’s Extracted

Extracted sees twelve teams sent into the Canadian wilderness. Players are divided into amateur survivalists called “competitors” and family and friends dubbed “companions.”

The “competitors” are kept in isolation while trying to survive, while the “companions” watch from afar from a compound. From this spot, the Companions determine who gets aid and who gets “extracted,” effectively eliminated, from the competition.

The series has helped introduce fans to self-proclaimed adventurer and breakout star, Blake Kaminer. Recently, Kaminer spoke with Us Weekly about surviving in the wild, as well as on social media.

Opening up, Kaminer mentioned he knew he wanted to be the survivalist on the show. As he noted, he’s enjoyed the great outdoors since he was young.

Kaminer shared, “I wanted to be the survivalist. I spent my teenage years in the outdoors hunting, fishing, making fires, forts and pretty much anything else outdoors. Being comfortable in that environment definitely gives you the upper hand in this type of competition.”

In his everyday life, Kaminer is a boat captain. As the publication noted, his time on the show revealed his skills as a trapper and hunter. However, when asked if he would be better suited for the wild or HQ, his answer even surprised himself.

Kaminer mused, “My first thought is that I would be better in the wild, but now that the competition has begun, I realized I’m better off in HQ. Receiving the best supplies with less experience is better than great experience but no good supplies, which makes it cool to have [my dad’s] support.”

Blake Kaminer Shared A Few Survival Tips With Fans

However, Kaminer admitted it wasn’t always easy in HQ, especially having to watch out for your loved ones. He noted, “The hardest part of watching my dad while in HQ was watching him struggle and not being able to help him.”

“I remember the moment my dad got the bow drill and all I wanted to do was reach through the screen and do it for him. So frustrating! I wanted to trade places every single day.”

Thanks to his time on the show, Kaminer was asked if he had any tips he wanted to share. He noted, “If I had any tips for surviving in the wild it would be to prioritize water, shelter and fire.”

“Acquiring those three things could be the difference between surviving or not. One main thing to do is to keep your clothes as dry as possible, including shoes. Trench foot in the woods makes for a bad day.”

Of course, Kaminer noted he also picked up a few tricks from other survival shows, like being careful with lake water. He also noted being a fan of Bear Grylls.

Kaminer’s rising star power has also brought him quite the attention on social media. As he noted, “So, far, it’s been a blast to interact with everyone and answer questions about the show. I didn’t have any preparation coming into this, but I’m looking forward to what’s to come.”
