A new love triangle is forming on Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The second episode of the season introduced maidservant Grace (Ruby Fubara), who catches Murtagh’s (Rory Alexander) eye. The wrinkle is she works for unhappily married Jocasta Cameron (Sadhbh Malin) with whom Murtagh shared a romantic encounter at the Beltane Festival in Season 1.
Executive producer Matthew B. Roberts foreshadows that Grace will help make Murtagh the man we know from Outlander.
“[In Blood of My Blood] this is the heart-on-his-sleeve, up-for-a-good-time Murtagh who’s not jaded and scarred like the Murtagh that we see in Outlander that Duncan [LaCroix] brought to life,” Roberts says. Watch the video above for our quick chat with Roberts and executive producer Maril Davis.
“We wanted to make sure that we scarred him enough through the seasons that you understand why he’s the Murtagh in Outlander. In creating the Grace character, also putting her in the Cameron house with Jocasta, we create a little triangle,” Roberts continues. “We wanted to give someone that Murtagh could possibly fall in love with. She’s a very strong character. You don’t know a lot about her in the beginning, but you begin to learn, and she touches a lot of lives throughout the season. It’s a pretty cool arc.”

We also asked Roberts about the return of Seema (Lauren McQueen), the sex worker who fell for Henry (Jeremy Irvine) in the first season. In this same episode, Arch Bug (Terence Rae) buys out her contract at the brothel and installs her as a scullery maid at Castle Leathers so she can be his eyes and ears and alert him if Henry returns. With Henry’s escape from the 20th century asylum, we’re hoping he makes it back through the stones to the 1700s.
But how much of a threat will Seema be? “Pretty big,” Roberts told us. “Keep both eyes on her.”
