Maury Povich and Connie Chung both have had prominent careers in journalism. However, the two have a greater connection: they are husband and wife. That said, they don’t always agree on everything. Recently, it’s come out that the two don’t necessarily agree with the recent overhaul impacting CBS.
Maury Povich & Connie Chung Have Been Married Since 1984
Both Povich and Chung are known for their work in broadcast journalism. Povich is arguably best known for hosting his namesake tabloid talk show, The Maury Povich Show, also known as Maury, from 1991 to 2022. Chung has served as a reporter and anchor for various outlets, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC.
Povich and Chung married in 1984. The two have a son, Matthew Jay Povich, whom they adopted in 1995. Povich also has two daughters from a previous marriage.
However, the two don’t always agree. For example, the couple admitted to having differing views concerning the recent overhaul at CBS.
As noted by USA Today, Povich admitted to wanting to keep an open mind concerning the changes happening at the network. Chung, meanwhile, who co-hosted CBS Evening News, felt that the recent Paramount Skydance merger, as well as the recent appointment of editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, wasn’t the best for journalism.
Povich admitted, “We’re in a little discussion about that,” regarding Chung. He continued, “She was talking about the CBS situation and how she didn’t understand how the new ownership of Paramount could hire somebody like Bari Weiss, who had never been in television, to run their news department, and I just said: ‘Well, you don’t know. Let’s just wait and see.’ And she just jumped at me.”
Povich noted, “I was a little more open to the experience.” However, he added, “[Chung] shot me down pretty quick.”
Povich Also Talked About Whether He Noticed Anything Different About 60 Minutes
Regarding recent criticism concerning Weiss, Povich also felt, “You got to prove yourself one way or another. Let’s see what happens.”
The former talk show host also felt he hadn’t seen much of a change for 60 Minutes as of late. He continued, “So far, I don’t think I’ve seen a change. I watched ’60 Minutes’ – it’s all the same ’60 Minutes’ as I’ve always watched all my life. And so we’ll wait and see.” Chung had served as a correspondent for the show from 1990 to 1993.
While not wanting to pass “judgment,” Povich felt his spouse saw things differently, in part due to her own background with CBS. He explained, “My wife, on the other hand, is a long-standing member. She loves CBS to the hilt, and she takes great affront to what’s happening.”
